Michael Baumber's "History of Kildwick Parish" (AD950 to 1660) The Farnhill and Kildwick Local History Group were saddened to hear of the death of Michael Baumber, in August 2015. Michael was a good friend to the group, and gave us a number of very interesting and informative talks. During the last of these, in May 2015, Michael revealed that he had completed work on Volume 1 of his long-awaited "History of Kildwick Parish", and we looked forward to reading it. There is no evidence that a publisher had been lined up for this project and, following Michael's death, the Farnhill and Kildwick Local History Group obtained permission from his next of kin to publish what we believe to be the completed material, consisting of nine chapters covering the period AD950 to 1660 - from the founding of Kildwick Church to the restoration of the monarchy. In presenting this material we have kept editorialising to an absolute minimum. Michael's text has simply been formatted for web publication and, where appropriate, date ranges added to the chapter headings. Otherwise, the material is as Michael left it - his final thoughts on the place he made his home. |
